According to their usage, shafts for jacking are divided into starting (working), end and transit (mid shafts) shafts. A shaft serves as a working place for placing a shafting machine and for shafting itself. Its secondary usage is revision shafts for functional sewage.

A starting jacking shaft is for placing a jacking machine with accessories, pipe installing, soil mining and drainage of building site. An end jacking shaft is a shaft at the end of a jacking route. Dismantling of jacking machine and accessories takes place in end shaft. A transit shaft is possible to use in the case of long jacking routes. In this case it can be used for planned change of drilling equipment and other maintenance of jacking machine.
