Slotted gutters ensure the drainage of surface water from paved surfaces, i.e. roadways, paved shoulders, traffic areas, car parks, etc. They can be placed either at the edge or inside the area to be drained. They are not intended for the drainage of rainwater from unpaved areas. Except for the top surface with a slot, the entire gutter is below the level of the adjacent paved area or ground.

Construction

Slotted gutters are assembled from reinforced concrete parts, and connected using seals so that the finished gutter is impermeable to both water and possible oil substances. The surface water flows into the gutter through a longitudinal slot, which is either continuous or intermittent. The surface of the gutters is flat with only a slight surface slope to the longitudinal slot in the middle of the gutter. The longitudinal movement of the water flowing into the gutter through the slot already takes place inside the gutter. The water is usually diverted to the outlet sections and connected to the rainwater drainage system. In some cases, the water from the gutter may be discharged directly into a ditch or drainage channel. Slotted gutters are more enclosed than gutters with a continuous grate and this significantly reduces the possibility of the gutter freezing at low temperatures. The flow profile of a slotted gutter is not circular but consists of two semicircles with central vertical walls. Such a profile also allows the production of elements with an internal bottom slope, which are usable with small or zero longitudinal slopes of the gutter surface.
